School trustees play a vital role in shaping public education in Coast Mountains School District No. 82. Trustees are locally elected representatives who work together as a Board of Education to establish policy, oversee the district budget, and support student success across our communities.

Key Dates

• August 4, 2026 – Printed nomination packages available by appointment
• September 1, 2026 (9:00 a.m.) – Nomination period opens
• September 11, 2026 (4:00 p.m.) – Nomination period closes
• September 18, 2026 (4:00 p.m.) – Candidate withdrawal deadline
• September 19, 2026 - Campaign period begins
• October 17, 2026 – General Voting Day

 Voting Locations: 

  Voting locations and voting opportunities are available for the following Trustee Electoral Areas:

• Trustee Electoral Area 1 (Kitimat)
• Trustee Electoral Area 3 (Thornhill)
• Trustee Electoral Area 5 (Hazelton)

 Declaration of Election By Voting: An election will be held in the following Trustee Electoral Areas:

Declaration of Election By Acclamation: The following candidates have been elected by acclamation because the number of nominees did not exceed the number of positions available. No election will be held in these Trustee Electoral Areas.

Mail Ballot Voting: Eligible voters who are unable to vote in person may apply to vote by mail for the 2026 School Trustee Election.

Mail ballot packages will be available beginning October 1 2026. Tor receive a package by mail, completed applications must be received by October 6, 2026. Applications for package pickup at the CMSD82 Administration Office must be received by October 9, 2026.

Completed ballots may be

• Returned by mail
• Dropped off at an advance voting opportunity
• Dropped off on General Voting Day
• Delivered to the CMSD82 Administation Office during regular business hours before 4:00p.m. on October 16, 2026

Important: Due to possible postal delays, voters are encouraged to return their ballots in person whenever possible. It is the voter's responsibility to ensure their ballot is received on time. Ballots received after 8:00 p.m. on October 17, 2026 cannot be counted.

To run for School Trustee, candidates must meet eligibility requirements established by provincial legislation. The minimum number of qualified nominators required is two (2) and no nomination deposit is required.
